The first few weeks of pregnancy can be a time of excitement, but also anxiety. At Harley Street Gynaecology, we bridge the gap between your positive test and your first NHS scan. We provide Consultant-led early pregnancy scans in London for women seeking immediate reassurance, accurate dating, and early medical assessment.

Unlike many "baby scan" boutiques in London where scans are performed by sonographers, our clinic is led by Consultant Gynaecologists.
When you book with Mrs S Rouabi or Dr.Victoire Castelbajac, you are not just getting an image; you are getting a medical consultation.
Medical Expertise: If a complication is found (such as a cyst, fibroid, or potential miscarriage), our consultants can diagnose and discuss a management plan immediately.
State-of-the-art Technology: We use high-resolution ultrasound technology to provide the clearest possible visibility at early gestation.
Multilingual Care: We offer specialised clinics for Arabic, French, and Japanese speaking women, ensuring no language barrier stands between you and your healthcare.
We recommend booking an early pregnancy scan (often called a "viability scan" or "dating scan") between 6 and 11 weeks of pregnancy.
What the scan can tell you:
Confirm Viability: Visualising the heartbeat (usually visible from 6–7 weeks).
Exclude Ectopic Pregnancy: Confirming the pregnancy is located safely inside the uterus, which is vital for your safety.
Accurate Dating: Measuring the Crown Rump Length (CRL) to estimate your delivery date.
Single or Multiple: Determining if you are carrying twins or triplets.
Important Note on Timing: If you are fewer than 6 weeks pregnant, it may be too early to see a heartbeat. We may recommend a blood test (Beta HCG) alongside the scan to monitor hormone levels over 48 hours.
We understand you may be nervous. Our clinic is designed to be calm, private, and supportive.
1. The Procedure At early gestation (before 10 weeks), an abdominal scan may not provide enough detail. We typically perform a transvaginal ultrasound (internal scan).
It is safe for both you and the pregnancy.
It is not painful but may cause mild discomfort.
It provides a high-definition view of the gestational sac and heartbeat.
2. Immediate Results There is no waiting. Your Consultant Gynaecologist will explain the findings to you during the scan. You will leave with a medical report and images of your scan.
3. If We Find a Problem In the unfortunate event that the scan shows a concern, you are in the safest hands. As a specialist gynaecology clinic, we can arrange further testing, counselling, or early pregnancy management without you needing to visit A&E.
